Jaspreet Singh Chatthe from Kenya and Craig Thorley from UK driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X were all smiles after winning the 17th edition of Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally 2015 and being crowned Africa champion. Chatthe becomes the third Kenyan after David Horsey driving a Peugeot in 1984 and Shekhar Mehta (RIP) in 1981 to land the Africa title.
The 39-year old Kenyan had failed to finish the event on three previous occasions but came good when it mattered.
“Finally the jinx is over. It is a sweet victory winning the event and Africa title at the same time,” he said. Chatthe led from day one and never looked back finishing the event in a time of 2:35:55, 11 minutes, 42 seconds ahead of Desh Kananura and Moses Matovu in a Subaru N14.
